Laura Boswell ARE – Printmaker

Linocut and Reduction Printmaking

Divided into three parts, this book introduces the reader to the infinite possibilities of working with traditional artist’s lino.

Part one: a practical guide to tools and materials
As well as help with choosing and buying the right equipment, inks and papers, this part gives comprehensive advice on cutting and printing techniques. Learn how to prepare, store and maintain your tools and materials, and how to get the best from them when you come to make your prints.

Part two: master developing an initial idea into a finished design
This section will help with inspiration, working up ideas, designing with the process in mind and practical steps for transferring your design onto lino. There are helpful ideas for developing a printing plan and for learning to think as a printmaker.

Part three: step-by-step sequences to eight reduction prints
Print one details both the cutting and printing for a simple reduction print. Prints two to five document one image cut and printed in different ways, while prints six to eight are more sophisticated and explore creative approaches to cutting and printing.
