Being There

‘Being there’ covers all the bits and pieces I do for fun and the experience: my Open Studios which run every summer, shows, artist talks and demonstrations and one lovely project where I got to paint a huge picture in the middle of High Wycombe High Street; good thing it was a sunny day...

Open Studios

Every year I open up my studio for the Bucks Open Studio event in late June. It’s an event I love and it is your chance to visit a working print studio. Come and see me working, smell the inks, watch the presses in action and ask me anything you like. Printmaking is a craft as well as an art and this is your chance to see what goes into a handcut print. If it’s something you’d like to try you can find out about my courses and classes and if it’s something you’d like to buy, I’ll be selling prints, paintings, cards and printing kits. Follow the link for details of the event www.bucksopenstudios.org.uk.

Hand and Eye Press

Hand and Eye Press is a fine letterpress printing company producing superb work in the tradition of the Curwen Press. It was both a huge pleasure and bit scary to be invited to work with Rosa, Nick and Phil printing one of my landscapes as a poster. Used to printing an edition of six, I found myself hand painting 150 or so sunsets onto the lino for this commercial edition. You can buy this poster from me or from Phil at www.handandeye.co.uk

Wycombe Street Mural

What an opportunity for a bit of exhibitionism! Wycombe Town Council’s Pepperpot Project was a call to artists to compete to paint hoardings in the town centre. I was lucky with the weather, the friendly audience and the household emulsion. It was a long day, but I ended up with a prize for my mural of Wycombe Woods to compensate for my sore arms.

Artist Talks

I really enjoy telling people about my work and particularly about the techniques I use. I often give talks and tabletop demonstrations in galleries and places where I teach. I also like to give talks in schools and will usually do those for free as I believe it’s great for kids to meet a working artist. If you’d like me to give a talk and/or demonstration to your club, society or school then mail me and I’ll see what I can do.

This is our garden gate. The thing about being an artist is that I want to try my hand at just about everything. It’s based on sun and willow shapes. It’s made from birch ply and when I saw paint called ‘Print Room Yellow’ it was obvious what colour I needed to paint it. What I’d really like is to design a landscape in a length of fencing, but as you can see, we have an abundance of hedge...
